One week before Bellatrix lit up the Winery, KBGA threw a terrific party to celebrate the end of their annual pledge drive. Endathon inhabited the Badlander/Palace complex on Friday, February 18, 2011.
The Count caught his plane this time, and Rooster Sauce reunited to play for the first time in many moons.
Hello. Welcome to Endathon. Would you like to buy a raffle ticket?
DJs downstairs in the Palace,
and 10yoGF on the Badlander stage,
where Green Horse followed.
Kitty Deyo is one of my favorite people. You can see her on flickr in the Cabaret and Bellatrix sets, also.
To summarize: Endathon was a rousing party, and a good time was had by all.
Afterwards, however, the coat check area turned into a major cluster fuck.
There are two sets on flickr with Endathon and Rooster Sauce. Check those out, too.

Good-bye Rooster; Hello Hijackers
Last Thursday in the Palace, Rooster Sauce gave their last performance. Everyone said farewell to Chris, the Count, as he prepared to move to Arizona.
See you on down the road, Chris.
As Rooster Sauce was tearing down, I wandered upstairs, and encountered two friends in the hallway.
Being a fan of live music, I don't fully understand how a DJ Dance can be the hottest event in Zootown week after week, but consistently the Dead Hipsters have produced just that on Thursday nights in the Badlander.
Everyone should know this guy by now. Travis Yost drums with Tom Catmull and the Clerics, longtime Zootown favorites. Now he's moved up front with a guitar, surrounded himself with three beautiful women and named this shindig the New Hijackers. This night, they followed Rooster Sauce to cap the evening.
More from this evening can be found on my flickr archive. Travis has been a favorite subject for a while and can be seen in the sets of Tom Catmull and the Clerics.

Rolling for Hellgate
Palace hosts benefit for Hellgate RollerGirls.
In between bands, PBR freebies were tossed to the crowd. T-shirts and posters were for sale at the Rollergirl table. A charming young lady gave the old Kitchenpoet a peck on the cheek for buying a poster. I was already happy, because Rooster Sauce is one of my favorite bands, and both El Gato Zombi and Reptile Dysfunction have been on my must see list for a long time.
The goal is to get a roller league going in Missoula. I understand they are looking for vacant warehouse space for a rink. One of my friends said he couldn't wait to see them rolling. El Zombi Gato is unique and soon to be no more. They powered the opening for this benefit. The band will make one more appearance before going the way of all things. When you see the ad for it, put it on the calendar and be there.
Next up: Reptile Dysfunction
What can I say? Adelaide knocks me out, and Davy Jones and the Count are the liveliest guitar players in a town full of great players.

Look for all three bands by name on the flickr archive. Each name will be followed by the date October 22, 2009. Wednesday, June 17, 2009
Shake Down at the Ritz

Originally, I went to see Rooster Sauce, because I loved Adelaide, now incarnated as Sara Lee Rooster. Now, I go see them every chance I get, because they are one of the truly fun bands appearing in Zootown. They opened a special Monday night event at the Badlander, inside the historic Ritz Building.
Did he say, "Jack Burton?" Rooster Sauce performed a sensational set and prepared the audience for the wildness to follow.
Expectation filled the Badlander, because these guys had a rep as heavy-duty, kick-ass and wild.
To say the singer of the Legendary Shack Shakers is intense would be a vast understatement. This dude puts the psycho in psycho-billy. Colin Hickey was right up front congratulating himself for booking this bunch, but when the spittle began to fly, he did a fast fade. Others treated the flying spit and sweat as a baptism and danced in religious ecstasy. These guys lived up to their billing with a rousing, roof-raising performance.
It was not my intention to be out late on Monday night. I figured I owed Rooster Sauce one, because I had missed their recent shows. I planned to leave after a few minutes of evaluating the headliners, but... They started playing, and this madman cavorted around the stage spouting subversive lyrics and mugging ferociously, with a touch of carnival barker and clown. I was hooked.
To make up the lack of sleep I was in bed, tonight, before 10pm, when my landlady and her boyfriend fired up a lawnmower outside my bedroom window. I'm getting pissed off again just remembering it, now. People who know me will tell you the old kitchen poet is usually pretty mellow, but this night I flew straight to rage, without breathing deeply, counting or anything else. I leaped to my window and shouted, "Shut that fucking thing off, and get the hell out of here." The machine soon died, and as he tried to restart it, I asked him if he had heard me. He said he did and continued with the mower. After reminding him of the time, I repeated my previous order. He left griping bitterly about just trying to clean the place up and do a good deed. He also shouted that I should show my landlord some respect.
So here I am early in the morning catching up on the blog and some other photo work, wishing I wasn't humming like a high-tension wire. I don't need this shit. The trip to Arkansas was stressful enough. Did I mention the night of my return, at a little before 11pm, pulling the U-Haul down the street to home and finding the landlady in the yard waving a weed-whacker around? She didn't have the boyfriend with her that night, but she was making plenty of noise on her own. When I told her she had to be violating a noise ordinance, she said she had to get those dandelions, because they had been on her mind.
Did I rape and murder nuns in a former life? What did I do to deserve this? Where do these people come from?
On a positive note: a thorough physical at Partnership Health Clinic found me to be in great shape for an old fart. My blood pressure was excellent then. I'll bet it isn't now.

Rooster Sauce Headlines a Great Palace Evening

He's used other names with other bands, but now he is David Lee Rooster, right up front in Rooster Sauce. According to him, the bassist below is another Rooster, Sarah something, I think, but she's always going to be Adelaide of Ceretanas Studio, to me. She's an artist, a musician, a glam rocker and a vintage vinyl specialist. At least she works in a shop that specializes in vintage.

Rooster Sauce can glam, cover, rock and stomp. Their eclectic and ever-changing mix of looks and sounds is beginning to rope me in. One thing is for sure: the Roosters want you to have a good time at their shows, and they will bust their butts to see you do.
This night, they were in top form, and the guitars eschewed costumes and gimmicks to show off their musical chops.

Another late night for the Kitchenpoet, after big night with Wartime Blues, on Tuesday. I still haven't worked those photos, and, now, last night's Palace show and Reverend Slanky's return to the Badlander are added to the rock pile. Where is my sledgehammer?
