Around Town, on Foot and in My Head

Korean students on vacation kicked up their heels in zootown.

At last, that wooden monstrosity is gone, and the sidewalk by FIB is once again open.

The windows of zootown offer rich diversity.

The machines are plotting...

This guy seemed to be asking if the photographer was edible.

The Missoulian recently ran a front page article about Uptown Optical and its owner, Mary Balkie. In addition to being a satisfied customer, I have always loved the window display.

Art is Everywhere

I haven't been in any gutters lately, but I am sure the above statement is true, because art is everywhere. I particularly like the art to be found in streets and alleys. For example, here is a little show I stumbled upon recently. Isn't this beautiful stuff?

Kitchenpoet to Prowl Again Soon

Maybe after another nap...
An angel protects Mikey, who is a member of the noise band Knot Knocked Up. Sooner or later, there will be photos of that group in action, right here on the stove.
One of the world's most beautiful women was bedazzling on this particular night.
A favorite thing is to photograph other photographers.
Often, people ask to be photographed. Some demand to be photographed. It puzzles me how many ask to be photographed, but never mention seeing the result. It is enough to be photographed. Some ask to be photographed and then strike a dramatic pose.
Kitchenpoet recently had another birthday. It was enough to make the old fart feel even older than usual. He groaned and complained about being old and in the way. Then, the glitches attacked, and he felt everything he touched turned to shit and vowed not to hug anyone he liked. He spent some time looking for assholes to shake hands with. That phase seems to be ending, and kitchenpoet will be hitting the streets again, soon, because he is craving new sights and sounds.

Steamroller Prints Highlight Day of the Dead Parade

First, a tribute to one who passed on.

Then a series of excellent prints.

Three large, gaunt creatures came shambling along the avenue.

The Day of the Dead, as celebrated in the Zoo City, is quite an event. Intermittent drizzles of rain didn't stop hundreds of folks from gathering near the XXXs and moving down Higgins to Carus Park. I decided to give it more coverage. An artist friend recently taught me when the frame contains little color it might as well be black and white.

Day of the Dead

Halloween and Day of the Dead are big holidays in the Zoo City. Halloween knocked me out, and I missed shooting Saturday night, as I was in recovery mode. Old and slow is part of my profile, and I may need to add "sometimes can't go." I was ready to roll for Day of the Dead, on Sunday, and to prove it here's a quick recap. As always there are more images on the flickr archive here.

The rain did not keep hardy citizens from crowding Higgins for the fun, as the parade marched down to Caras Park. I liked the colored reflections, but worried about the camera getting wet.

There were skeletons and ghostly apparitions,

peace groups,
jugglers and fire dancers,

Was that Gabriel blowing his horn? No, just another old Zoo Town native sounding off for the event. I started the afternoon walking across Higgins Bridge to shoot the mandala. After visiting Butterfly, walking to the depot and following the parade back down the street, the people covering the mandala were my last shots, before I walked over the river and headed home.
