Dauphines is Next Door

Hello. Why are you bummed? Yeah, I know, its almost 2 o'clock, and they want you to get out of the bar. And, I'll bet you're hungry, too, aren't you? Did you know Dauhine's Cafe is right here? They will be open another hour. Just walk from the Badlander dance floor, through the lounge doors.

Bring your friends. For a few bucks you can get a mountain of fries that would feed half the birds in Missoula, and you will need to share. I hope you're drunk to the point of making hasty decisions. Otherwise, you might dither too long, because there is a lot to choose from. The menu includes slow food, burgers and breakfasts.

Right through here.

Look at this. They have started an herb garden in here. How cool is that?

Also easy to find from the other Ritz establishments, the Palace and the Golden Rose.

Dauphine's Has Moved

After overcoming many obstacles and enduring many delays, Dauphine's opened in its new location in the Ritz building, alongside the Golden Rose, the housing authority and the Badlander. Entry is on Ryman, next to the barber shop. It can fool you, because the windows face Broadway, but you can't get in on that side.

In addition to the hours and menu from the old location, Dauphine's will now have late night hours on Friday and Saturday, from 11p to 3a. People can fall right out of the Badlander lounge and land in the cafe, ready to eat. The people who had become tired of the Ox and the Pit, now have a handy alternative.

Baba Ganoush = More Fun

I'm convinced we were not put here to have a bad time. We are born, we die, and what we fill the time between with is up to each of us. I'm trying to fill mine with as much fun as possible. That's one of the reasons I love zootown. The music scene is full of fun, and Baba Ganoush is one of the bands which exemplifies this.

They played Dauphine's on First Friday, March 6, and a eight days later, March 14, were on stage at the Badlander. Their fan base seems to be growing. I remember when they put up their hand made sign and played on the sidewalk by the Sterling Bank steps. A lot of water has passed under the Higgins Bridge since then.

As usual, more photos of this group may be found on flickr.

Friday, the 13th in Zootown

The once unnamed band, which had been Thug Life, is now Dr Agony and the Mystery Date. I don't know what the Dr Agony part is about, but I like Mystery Date. Pay attention zootown, there's some serious young star power developing here.

Electric Dandelion was set up and ready to go, at a house party, awaiting the arrival of their front man Kalen. I recently covered their show at the Palace. This night's performance ended soon, as the old wiring couldn't supply enough juice to power the band.

Mikki said my flash bothered her, and I began to shoot at slow shutter speeds with available light. I've been experimenting with this for a week or two.

When the musicians became giants, the one limitation of the basement venue became apparent. It was a wild and woolly night in the underground, beneath ZACC.

Pluto's a Planet capped the evening, at Dauphine's.

I can't be everywhere, but sometimes I try and I'm too old for that. This body can only handle so much coffee, and I need my eight hours.

Last night, was another marathon night, much like First Friday, a week earlier. Last week still isn't handled, but time is flexible and re-arrangeable in our new world. Thus, I simply must handle Friday, the 13th, first, and then go back to last week to finish off First Friday.

I started the evening with Mystery Date, because I saw them at the Palace and enjoyed their set. See that event in a previous post and on the flickr archive. Find more of Friday, the 13th, as well.

From Dauphine's, I rushed to a Northside house party for Knot Knocked Up, but arrived as they began their last number. Electric Dandelion set up to play next, but the old house refused to cooperate, electrically, and the band packed it in. It wasn't a long walk to ZACC, where Bridgebuilder was performing in the basement. Then it was back to Dauphine's, where Pluto's a Planet was the final act.

Thomas Pendarvis has added producer to his credits, with several fine cutting-edge programs at Dauphine's. Dauphine's is moving into the building with the Badlander and the Palace. It's happening now.

Goddammitboyhowdy is coming to the ZACC basement. I missed them twice at the Badlander, and they cancelled a show at the Lab, when I was there and waiting. They will be here Saturday, March 28. Raw Nerves, from Portland, and two other bands are also on the bill for that event.

Name This Band

Guitar and vocals: Madison, viola by Mary.

Madison
Lorna
Lorna and Mary
Deb

This new band is searching for a name, because their first choice, Thug Life, obviously didn't fit them. What should they call themselves? I have a lot of ideas. What about you?

See them at Dauphine's final show on Friday the 13th of March. Be there or be square. Maybe they will have a name by then. Thomas Pendarvis' March of the Black Queen and Pluto is a Planet will also perform.

Ravin' at Dauphine's

I arrived in Missoula too late to experience The Raven, but evidently it was a kick-ass joint. Friday, December 5, its successor, Dauphine's, was rocking with kick-ass music. Good Neighbor Policy, whom the Missoulian said might be zoo town's best band is also gone, but again there is a worthy successor. Thomas Pendarvis has put together another band, The March of the Black Queen, and on this night they ripped a powerful set to climax the evening. Thomas fronted GNP, and here he is with the new band.

Earlier, Pluto's a Planet (formerly LP and the Federales) took their turn on stage and pleased a packed house with their sound.

Fiancee' started the evening with a creative rampage. I had not heard them before, but will make damn sure I hear them again.

It was a great night in the old Raven, and maybe a new beginning for Dauphine's, since Thomas says he wants more music there.

There are more photos from this night on flickr. Go there, find the set Ravin' at Dauphine's and hit the slide show button.

Next time you see a poster for music at this venue, be there, and maybe I'll take your picture.
